I just watched this movie today on Disney+, and I loved it. I remember hearing about people being so immensely happy to see themselves in a beloved Disney character, but I never saw any reactions until now. This video made me cry tears of joy. I'm not black myself, I'm white, but I'm also autistic, so I know what it feels like to be ignored, erased, and even hated for being born the way I am. There are still no movies with an autistic actor playing an autistic character, as we're being portrayed (always incorrectly) by neurotypicals, also known as non-disabled people. We're portrayed as animals, heathens and savages, but that's not who we are. I was moved to tears by this video because I'm looking forward to the day an actually autistic person will play an autistic character. I dream of seeing someone like myself in a positive light, played by someone born the same way as me. I imagine most of these beautiful girls in this video felt so happy to finally see themselves as a Disney princess, and one of the most beloved ones at that. As Japanese, the little mermaid 2023 gets criticism in Japan, goes like "I'm sad familiar white Ariel are swapped to black" and even black people are criticizing Disney like, "why Disney doing this again, stop race swapping and create original black princess". But I believe it's because that media is so lacking in representation of black, we actually needs "more" representation of black people, to the extent that Disney not doing race swapping anymore. I've seen other times when black people are enthusiastically surprised to see characters of their own race, and it breaks my heart that even reacting like that, because it's so rare to see black characters as main protagonist. Disney did another great thing, though I'm East Asian and I'm sincerely glad that kids are watching cartoons to see the same characters as them and get more into it!
